Summary of activities

FEMIP helps to support growth and generate employment in the Mediterranean partner countries through two types of action.

  • Direct private sector support via credit lines, risk capital operations and foreign direct investment aimed at strengthening:
    • small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially those involved in industry, tourism and services.
    • the industrial sector: cement and steel works, chemical and metallurgical plants, high-tech industries, the automotive sector and agro-industry.
  • Helping to create an enabling environment for the private sector to flourish by improving infrastructure in the following sectors:
    •  
      • Energy: power generation, transmission and distribution, gas transmission and distribution, renewable energies.
      • Transport and telecoms: airports, air transport, roads and motorways, bridges, railways, telecoms.
      • Environment: water and sanitation, solid waste disposal and treatment, pollution abatement, irrigation.
      • Human and social capital: construction and refurbishment of hospitals and healthcare centres, construction and refurbishment of schools, technical and vocational colleges, social housing.
