Chronology of the EIB: 1958-2008

The European Investment Bank shares a common history with the European Communities, linked to their establishment and development over the years. This chronology covers the key events involving the Bank between 1958 and 2008.

Key events: EIB established, first Board of Directors, first loans.

Key events: Headquarters moves to Luxembourg; Denmark, Ireland and United Kingdom join EC; adoption of eurco (European Composite Unit).

Key events: Financing area expands beyond European Union; European Investment Fund established; Austria, Finland and Sweden join EC.
