Selection Process

Applicants are selected among the nationals of Member States of the European Union 1. Nationals of the candidate countries whose accession negotiations have started may be also considered 2, although initially for fixed term contracts.

Depending on the nature of the assignment, the EIB may offer either fixed term or indefinite duration appointments.

Appointments are subject to a satisfactory pre-employment medical examination and are confirmed upon completion of a successful trial period.

Recruitment milestones

  • Once you successfully complete your on-line application, you will receive at the email address you specified an automatic acknowledgement confirming that your data have been integrated in our database. All data will be treated confidentially and in line with EC Regulation 45/2001
  • The Bank will then conduct a comparative analysis of the applications received in light of the job requirements, and will shortlist the candidates whose qualifications and experience are judged as better suited to the specific vacancy.
  • If your application is short-listed for a job, you will be contacted in order to continue the selection process, which will include telephone and/or direct personal interviews.
  • All candidates are required to pass psychometric tests, as well as going through a personality assessment before being recruited for any position. However, for many posts, candidates are also required to pass professional tests. Results of such tests may be provided to candidates upon request, at the end of the selection process.
  • You will receive feedback on your application as soon as a decision is made. Please bear in mind that the Bank conducts its recruitment campaigns internationally and involves both its line managers and HR in the selection processes.
  • Panels are in place at the Bank for the selection of candidates to Management positions. The legal basis for the selection of candidates by Panels is the document entitled "Best Practice in Selection Panels", which is made available to candidates upon invitation for interviews.
