EIB lending outside the EU: a way forward

  •  Date: 29 April 2010
  •  Location: European Parliament, Paul Henry Spaak Building, Room PHS 05 B 001

With almost EUR 9 bn dedicated in 2009 to investments in EU partner countries across the world, the EIB plays an important part in EU economic cooperation and development policy. But what do EU economic cooperation and development policies entail in terms of EU external financial support at the start of the 21st century alongside new challenges such as climate change? The discussion comes in the wake of the publication of an evaluation report drafted by a steering committee in the context of the Mid-Term Review of the EIB's external mandates and is scheduled the day after the Commission will publish its position paper.

Confirmed speakers include: Andris Piebalgs, EU Commissioner for Development; EIB President Philippe Maystadt; Michel Camdessus, former IMF Managing Director and Chairman of the review of EIB external lending.

This event will bring together Members of the European Parliament, EU and third country government representatives, EU policymakers, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders. We look forward to an interactive debate and have allocated sufficient time in the programme for discussion.

The conference programme is now available.

Conference presentations:

  • Welcome remarks of Philippe Maystadt, President of the EIB
  • Opening Speech of Andris Piebalgs, EU Commissioner for Development
  • Speech of Michel Camdessus, former IMF Managing Director and Chairman of the review of EIB external lending
